Rosa is a sand-bottomed beach break that peels both left and right and picks up plenty of swell. Praia Rosa has good exposure, and the standout takeoff is the north end, where peaky A-frames get some shelter from northeast wind in most swells. The south end is mellower, with small-swell rollers that suit beginners.
When It Works
The beach draws swell from east through south, and it lines up best on a southeast swell. It stays consistent, working across a wide size band from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft, so it holds up when the swell gets bigger as well as on smaller days.
Wind and Tide
Look for west offshore wind to clean it up. The break works through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a beginner-friendly beach, especially the softer rollers at the south end. Expect a busy lineup when it's on, and some jockeying for the A-frames up north on the good days. If you want a quieter session, check Praia do Luz and back towards the port for less-crowded options.
Access
There's a car park with free parking plus roadside parking, and the beach is well set up with restrooms, showers, camping, a lifeguard, a surf school, and a surf shop.
