Salamumu is a coral reef break on Upolu where the swell direction decides the show. Peaks throw up over the reef in front of Sa'Moana resort as either rights or lefts, but the one to watch is a quality, quicksilver left that peels down a slight bend in the reef in front of the village. It all breaks over live coral.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from southwest through southeast (SW-SE), with southeast (SE) swell the best match for lining up that left. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, so there is plenty of range to play with once a swell fills in. Expect a moderately consistent spot rather than something that fires every day.
Wind and Tide
Look for north (N) offshore wind to clean things up. The reef works on mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an intermediate-friendly wave, and the lineup stays manageable. Being this far west, it is usually just surfers from the nearby camp, so expect a moderately busy peak at most when it is on.
