Saligo Bay surf guide

Saligo Bay is a small beach located on the western coast of Scotland. It offers a unique surf experience thanks to its heavy beach breaks that can get quite powerful. The bay has both a north and a south end, which gives surfers options depending on the conditions on any given day. There are houses nearby, and the beach is accessible by walking down from them.

The surf here can be fun but also a bit challenging at times. The optimal swell direction is from the NorthWest, but it can also handle swells coming from the SouthWest. The waves break over sand and typically range from 2ft (about 0.6 meters) up to larger sizes. At the north end, you can find rights, while the lefts are more common at the south end. The conditions can get sucky and rippy, especially when the size picks up, and it's important to note that onshore winds often dominate. For the best sessions, low to mid tide is preferable, and the ideal wind direction is from the SouthEast.

Surfing Saligo Bay can be a mixed bag, so it's good to keep an eye on the conditions before heading out. The beach is great for surfers looking for a bit of adventure and doesn’t overly rely on consistent swell or wind conditions, making it a bit unpredictable at times. Just remember to check the tide and wind before you paddle out.
