Laggan Bay is a long beach located on the west coast, offering various peaks along its stretch. Access is easy, with routes from Kintra or the Machrie Hotel. It’s a decent spot for surfers looking to catch some waves without dealing with big crowds.
The surf here is generally best for those looking for beach breaks. The optimal swell direction is from the SouthWest, but you can also get some action with NorthWest swells. The waves handle sizes of up to about 2 feet (0.6 meters), breaking over a sandy bottom. You’ll find both left and right waves, depending on where you’re positioned on the beach. For the best conditions, aim for low to mid tide, and keep an eye on the wind—an east wind works nicely.
It’s a spot where the banks can be good, especially near the rivermouth and at both the northern and southern ends of the beach. When the conditions line up just right, you might find some decent surf to ride.
