Overview
Sao Pedro is a sand-bottomed beach break on the quieter, less-developed northern end of Guaruja Island. It picks up both lefts and rights, and when a solid swell shows up the lefts start spinning off the rocks.
When It Works
The bank draws swell from east through south (E-S), with a southeast (SE) swell the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, and being a consistent spot, it turns on often enough to be worth checking on most swells.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northwest (NW) offshore wind to clean it up. It can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call. If the wind swings around to the south, nearby Pinheiro and Iporanga are worth a look, though they want more east in the swell.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers. Expect a busy lineup when it works, especially on weekends.
Access
Exclusive resorts control the road access to the northern beaches like Sao Pedro, and parking here is restricted.
