Overview
Savu Left is a left-hand reef break that peels along a coral fringe near the main channel into the port town of Seba. When the swell is strong and west enough and the trades are offshore, it lines up into heavy walls with hollow sections.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from southwest to west, with west (W) swell the best match. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, breaking over dead coral. Consistency is moderate, so expect worthwhile windows when the setup lines up rather than surf every day.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast (SE) offshore wind to groom the walls. The reef can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers, and the lineup tends to stay fairly quiet. There are plenty of potential lefts spread between the harbour and the exposed outside reef, so there's room to spread out. Watch for urchins lurking between the coral.
Access
Getting out here is boat access only. Savu is the biggest island in the group, but it sits well off the beaten path and local infrastructure isn't geared toward western tourists.
