Overview
Secrets, also known as Horseshoe Cove, is a left-hand reef point at the north end of Salt Point State Park. It breaks over a rock ledge and, on its day, serves up some of the best waves in Sonoma north of Salmon Creek, at least when the Russian Rivermouth isn't going off. The name is a bit of a misnomer, since this spot is no secret once it lines up.
When It Works
Secrets comes alive on winter swells and peels as a left down the point. It draws swell from south to north (S-N) and is usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, coming into its best shape toward the bigger end of that range.
Wind and Tide
Look for a southeast (SE) offshore wind. This is a low-tide spot that works best at low tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Expect a busy lineup when it's on, since this one is no secret once the offshore wind is howling. The take-off zone is small, the currents can get strong, and there are several submerged rocks to keep an eye on.
