Shark Hole Surf Forecast Guide

Overview

Shark Hole, also known as Secret or Hualohilho, is a left-hand reef break tucked round the headland from Lagundri. It throws a barrel at take-off, then runs through a few racy sections into easier shoulders that peel toward deeper water, so there's a rewarding wall waiting for anyone who makes the drop.

When It Works

The reef pulls in swell from south to west (S-W), and a southwest (SW) swell is the best match. It's a consistent break that only sharpens up as the swell grows, working from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft and holding its shape well toward the bigger end of that range.

Wind and Tide

Look for an east (E) offshore wind, which the setup handles nicely since it sits sheltered from any easterly. It can work through most of the tide across low, mid, and high, with a rising tide generally the better call.

Local Tips

This is an intermediate-friendly left, ideally suited to surfers who are comfortable taking off under the lip and linking the racy sections. The lineup stays fairly quiet, helped by the fact that reaching it means a two-hour walk from Sorake beach. If Shark Hole isn't cooperating, the beachbreak peaks around the curve of Pantai Walohiu can turn on a good right.
