Overview
Sipacate is a quality beachbreak with peaky sandbar waves spread along miles of open beach, breaking both left and right. It's more powerful and consistent than most spots around, and while that pulls in a few more surfers, the sheer length of beach makes it easy to spread out and find your own peak.
When It Works
The magic happens when a peaky, head-high southwest swell lines up the banks for some tube time. Sipacate draws swell from southwest through southeast, with southwest the best match, and stays rideable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. As one of the more consistent breaks around, it tends to have something on offer more often than not.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast offshore wind, which usually means the cleanest conditions land with the morning offshores. The beachbreak works through low, mid, and high tide, though a rising tide is generally the better call and tends to complete the picture.
Local Tips
This is an approachable beachbreak that suits beginners, and you can expect a moderately busy lineup when it's firing. The locals are known to be a welcoming bunch.
Access
There's camping nearby, plus good accommodation at Marmaya right on the beach. To reach the spot, take a lancha ride across the lagoon from town.
