Skinningrove is a long, fickle right that peels over a rock ledge off Hummersea Scar, with two average beachbreaks sitting either side of the jetty. Be warned that the water here is heavily polluted, with nearby steelworks and old mine works leaving the quality sketchy.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from north through east-northeast to southeast (N-ENE-SE), and lines up best on a southeast (SE) swell. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3 m / 10 ft. Being fickle, it needs the right setup to come together, so pick your windows.
Wind and Tide
Look for a southwest (SW) offshore wind to clean it up. The ledge breaks on low and mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
