Overview
Snake Park is a sand-bottomed beach break tucked between the shorter solid piers of Snake Park and Battery Beach. The peaks shift with the sand, and sitting out in the open between the piers they tend to grab more swell and wind than the other town breaks. Expect both lefts and rights depending on how the banks are lining up.
When It Works
The break draws swell from southwest through north to northeast (SW-N-NE), with southeast (SE) the optimal direction. It stays consistent, so there's usually something to ride, and it works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, covering everything from smaller days up to solid overhead surf.
Wind and Tide
Look for a west (W) offshore wind to clean things up. The break can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's working, though quieter than the other town breaks nearby. Paddle-outs can be tougher here with fewer defined rips to help you get out the back. It used to carry a reputation for localism, but that has since moved down to New Pier.
Access
There's a solid spread of amenities close by, including restrooms, showers, a lifeguard, a surf school, and a surf shop. Parking is easy to sort out, with a car park offering free parking alongside paid and roadside options.
