Overview
Solawi is a well-formed fringing reef wrapping a tiny tropical island, and it serves up chunky left walls and tubes when the setup lines up. The wave breaks over live coral, so treat the bottom with respect. If the wind swings north, there's a right off the south side of the island worth a look, and the wider area holds more to explore, including Hidden Lefts on the mainland and Sibarubaru Rights on the next small island heading south.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from south through west, with southwest swell the best match. It's usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft, which leaves plenty of room between a small day and a serious one. More westerly swells help the lefts stand up into those long walls and tube sections.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast offshore wind, which is also the direction that grooms the lefts into their best shape. The reef can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers. The live coral bottom is the main thing to keep in mind, so pick your moments and know where you're sitting.
