Overview
Southbourne is a run of short, sucky shorebreaks, with sandbars anchored by a line of groynes and everything breaking over sand. The banks throw up both lefts and rights.
When It Works
It draws swell from east through south to southwest, with southwest swell the best match. The break is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast offshore wind. It can work through most of the tide, across low, mid, and high, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The punchy, sucky shorebreak makes it a popular spot with bodyboarders.
Access
There's a car park with paid parking by the beach, plus restrooms on hand.
