Overview
Spanish Bay, also known as South Moss Beach, is a scenic corner of coast holding several sandy beach-break peaks that break both left and right. The bay stacks up three main spots. At the north end is Dunes, a consistent right-hander over a reef and sand bottom. Just south sits Cobblestones, a powerful beachbreak that comes into its own when it stays small and clean. At the far south end is South Moss, where peaks bomb on the outside before mushing through to the inside. Keep going south and the coast turns rocky, home to the tow-in wave at Ghost Tree.
When It Works
The bay pulls in swell from south to north (S-N), with northwest (NW) swell the best match. It's a consistent setup with a wide working range, holding from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 5.5 m / 18 ft. Expect sand-bottom peaks serving up both lefts and rights.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast (SE) offshore wind to clean things up. The waves work through low and mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call. South Moss in particular tends to favor the lower stages of the tide.
Local Tips
This is a solid option for intermediate surfers. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on.
