Overview
Spanish Point - Outside Point is a heavy, hazardous reef that breaks over a rock ledge and throws thick barrels for experts only. It hoovers up just about any swell going and peels both left and right, but it demands real commitment every time you paddle out.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from southwest to northwest, with a west swell the best match. It works from 1.8 m / 6 ft to 7.6 m / 25 ft, so it needs genuine size before it comes to life. It can handle massive swells yet rarely gets surfed at any size, which tells you how serious it gets when it's on.
Wind and Tide
Look for an east offshore wind to clean it up. The reef can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an expert-only wave. The thick, hollow barrels and the hazardous reef leave no room for anyone still finding their feet in heavy surf.
Access
There's a car park with free parking, plus camping nearby if you want to stick around for a swell.
