Overview
Special K is a walled-up right that peels along the coral before bending and bowling out through the end section. The fringing reef heads offshore here, with a run of breaks hugging the curves of the coral, and Special K is one of them, working over live coral.
When It Works
It draws swell from southwest through southeast, with southeast (SE) the best match. The reef is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft and tends to be moderately consistent, giving worthwhile windows when the swell lines up. Expect a right-hander that walls up and saves its bowl for the end section.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest (NW) offshore wind, and keep in mind the southeast trades blow dead onshore, so time it for lighter or offshore spells. It's a mid-to-high tide spot, and a rising tide is generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers who are comfortable riding a coral reef. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's working. Across the channel, Pebbles is a harder, hollower option that favors goofy-footers.
