St Pabu is a beach break that peels both left and right over a mix of uneven reef and sand. The hollow shorebreak really comes alive on a strong northwest swell and is a treat for bodyboarders. If the wind or swell is a touch off, the far corners of the beach offer some shelter.
When It Works
The break draws swell from west through north (W-N), with northwest swell the best match. It works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, and consistency is moderate, so you will find rideable windows without it turning on every day.
Wind and Tide
Look for south offshore wind to clean things up. The spot works on mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call. Offshore rocks and oyster farms block the swell at low tide, so a spring high is a real plus.
Local Tips
St Pabu suits intermediate surfers, and you can expect a busy lineup when it is working. If you want a change of scenery, there are more shallow reef spots around Lampaul-Ploudalmézeau once enough swell filters through the maze of islands.
Access
There is camping close by, along with a car park offering free parking and roadside parking as well.
