St Thomas Bay is a left-hander in the Marsaskala area, peeling over a mix of uneven reef and sand. It only shows up on the occasional southeast swell, but when it does turn on it is an approachable wave that works for just about anyone.
When It Works
The bay draws swell from east through southeast, with southeast (SE) swell the best match. It is usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft. Consistency is the catch here, so treat it as a spot to check when a southeast swell is on the charts rather than one to count on week to week.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest (NW) offshore wind. The reef can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The left is friendly enough for beginners and still holds up for more experienced surfers, which makes it an easy one to bring a mixed crew to. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it works, since it is the main option in the area once a southeast swell arrives.
