Overview
Sunset Left is a hollow left-hander that breaks over uneven reef, a short paddle off the private Pigeon Point area. When Mount Irvine is packed, it makes a solid alternative and breaks in similar conditions.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from north to northeast, with a north swell the best match. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft, and it's moderately consistent, so you'll find worthwhile windows when the swell lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast offshore wind. The reef can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Sunset Left suits intermediate surfers. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's working.
Access
To reach it, walk about a mile up the beach from Store Bay; the wave is a short paddle out off the Pigeon Point area. Parking nearby is restricted.
