Overview
Surfer's Point is a beginner-friendly reef break on the southeast coast of Barbados, in Inch Marlow. It breaks over a dead coral platform that stays fairly benign and serves up soft, crumbly lefts that peel and trickle down into the bay. A few against-the-grain rights turn up too, and the whole set-up leans toward fun, easy rides. Sitting semi-protected from the usual trade winds, it tends to run cleaner than the more exposed windward breaks nearby.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from northeast through east-southeast to south, with southeast swell the best match. It's usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft, running from chest high up to overhead. This is a moderately consistent wave that picks up trade swell, and it stays in play across summer, autumn, and winter, summer adding tropical cyclone swells on top of the steady trade swells that keep it going through the colder months.
Wind and Tide
Look for a north offshore wind to smooth it out. The reef works through low, mid, and high tide, so you can catch it across most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a genuine beginner wave, and a funboard, longboard, or fish all suit its mellow shoulders. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's working, and an atmosphere that can feel a little reserved.
Access
Getting in and out is the main thing to watch here. Park in the car park with free parking, or pull over on the roadside, then hop off the cliff or walk onto the reef to paddle out. A surf school and surf shop are on hand if you need a board or a lesson.
