Overview
Surin Beach is a sand-bottomed beach break that scoops up the lion's share of southwest swell, which often makes it the biggest spot on the island. It breaks both left and right, and the last rock at the northern end can shape a great sandbank with fast rights. When the swell fills in it can break with real purpose, so keep an eye out for a few rocks in the water.
When It Works
Surin draws swell from southwest through west, with southwest swell the best match. It's usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft and stays moderately consistent through the season.
Wind and Tide
Look for east offshore wind to clean it up. It can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call. Match the tide to the size: bigger swells come alive on high tide, while smaller days are better on low to mid tide.
Local Tips
This is an approachable, beginner-friendly wave. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on.
Access
There are plenty of restaurants right in front of the break, along with restrooms, a lifeguard, and a surf school. Parking is free, both in the area and along the roadside.
