Tan-Tan Plage surf guide

Tan-Tan Plage, also known as El Ouatia, is located about 25 kilometers away from the nearest village. This spot is unique as it’s the only 2WD road accessible surf location in the area. To the north, you'll find the Hamada Stone desert, while to the south are high cliffs that offer breathtaking views of the sea.

The surf here can be decent, especially for those who are at an intermediate level. You can expect left waves that break over an uneven reef and sand, making it a mixed bag. The optimal swell direction is Northwest, but it can also pick up swells from the Southwest and North. Tan-Tan Plage is good for swell sizes around 2 feet (about 0.6 meters). For the best results, you’ll want to surf during low to mid or high tide, and a Southeast wind really helps to clean things up. Just keep in mind that the conditions can vary, so it’s often a judgment call on whether to paddle out.

Since it's a more off-the-beaten-path surf spot, it can be less crowded than other locations, giving you a bit more space to ride. Keep an eye on the swell forecast, as the wave conditions can change, and be ready to adapt your surf session accordingly. Enjoy your time out there!
