Tanjung A'an is a heavy right-hand reef break that peels over live coral inside a bay. This is genuinely heavy water, breaking on a sharp, shallow reef with serious tubing intent, so barrel time is part of the deal. There is also a left that can fire off barrels when the swell lines up.
When It Works
A straight south swell pushes into the bay and unloads on the reef. The spot draws swell from south through southwest (S-SW), with south (S) the best match for the right. It works from 0.4 m / 1 ft to 3 m / 10 ft and is moderately consistent, so it can be less reliable than some nearby breaks.
Wind and Tide
Look for north (N) offshore wind, with a workable wind window running from south-southwest through north (SSW-N). It can work across low, mid, and high tide on both rising and falling water, with high tide the best call. The wave gets noticeably heavier below mid tide, when the reef really comes into play.
Local Tips
This is an expert-level wave and heavy water that is not one to take lightly. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it turns on, and be aware that a few local minders keep an eye on it given the quality on offer.
