Tapak Padri is a left-hand point in the city of Bengkulu, breaking over sand that builds up on the lee side of some big seawalls with two projecting jetties. A large offshore reef sits to the south of the point and shelters the break heavily, blocking a lot of the south swell that would otherwise reach it. When it lines up, the wave can wall up for some really long rides.
When It Works
The point draws swell from southwest through west, with west (W) swell the best match. The more west in the swell, the bigger it gets here, and large southwest to west groundswell is what really switches the place on. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. Consistency is middling, mostly because it is often simply too small, so it pays to wait for a decent swell rather than turn up on spec.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast (SE) offshore wind. The point breaks through all tides, though a rising tide is generally the better call.
Local Tips
Intermediate surfers will get the most out of it. The lineup stays fairly quiet, and there is a friendly crew of around 50 local surfers in town.
