The Kom is a left-breaking reef with two distinct sections. Inner Kom serves up fun lefts that peel over kelp beds, while Outer Kom throws powerful, shifting lefts that can drop you straight into the impact zone. It breaks over uneven reef and asks for a late vertical drop and some barrel sense as you race for the channel.
When It Works
Both sections stay open to plenty of swell, pulling it from southeast through south to west (SE-S-W), with west (W) the best match. It works from 1.8 m / 6 ft to 7.6 m / 25 ft. Expect it to be somewhat inconsistent and rarely perfect or predictable, so timing your session matters here.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast (NE) offshore wind. The reef breaks on low and mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an expert-only wave. Rips pick up once you clear the harbour and drag toward the impact zone, and getting caught out by a rogue set is almost guaranteed unless you stay wide and alert. Expect a moderately busy lineup, often mist-shrouded, with plenty of seasoned surfers braving it.
