Overview
The Leap is Samoa's version of Pipeline: a big, round and genuinely dangerous left that reels over live coral. It's a serious reef wave with real consequences, so treat it with respect.
When It Works
The Leap draws swell from southwest through southeast, with southeast (SE) swell the best match. It's usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, and being moderately consistent, it delivers worthwhile windows rather than firing every day.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast (NE) offshore wind, or glassy conditions when the wind drops out entirely. It works through mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is expert-only territory, given the size, the power and the shallow live coral beneath it. Expect a fairly quiet lineup when it turns on.
