The Neck Surf Forecast Guide

Overview

The Neck is the narrow isthmus that joins North and South Bruny, forming a straight, narrow beach that faces away from the main swell source. It's a sand-bottom beachbreak with both lefts and rights, and it's often small and dribbly.

When It Works

The Neck draws swell from the southeast through south (SE-S), with southeast swell the best match. Because the beach sits away from the main swell source, you really want a SE swell pushing in, and it comes alive when the rips and gutters are pronounced enough to carve out some quality peaks instead of closing out. It's usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft and can be somewhat inconsistent, so it pays to catch it on the right day.

Wind and Tide

Look for northwest offshore wind. The beach can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.

Local Tips

This is a friendly spot for beginners, and the lineup usually stays fairly quiet.

Access

Access is easiest around the lookout, which is probably the best place to set up. There's a car park with free parking, roadside parking, and camping.
