Overview
Tikehau Right is a right-hand reef break that peels over live coral. It tends to be a touch more forgiving than the left over the pass, though it has been known to go ballistic on the rare big northwest swell. The wave is hollower on the outside along the straighter reef line, then hugs the channel into the inside, where it shoulders off at a slower pace.
When It Works
It draws swell from the southwest through northwest, with northwest (NW) the best match. The wave works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3 m / 10 ft. Consistency is moderate, so it pays to catch it when the swell lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for offshore wind from the east (E), with a workable window running from northeast through east. It comes in on mid to high tide, and a rising tide is the better call as the swell pushes in.
Local Tips
Intermediates will manage most days. Expect a fairly quiet lineup when it's working.
