Overview
Trancas Point is a hollow, rocky right-hand point at the north end of Zuma Beach. The takeoff sits right beside a large rock, with the wave breaking over a rock ledge and sand. A gnarly shorebreak adds to the mix here.
When It Works
The point wants size, and it comes alive on big swells, with the more westerly swells firing best. It draws from south to west (S-W), so big south swells break here too, though the wave doesn't wrap in as cleanly, making west swell the best match. It's usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for a north offshore wind. The point works best around mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Access
Private property surrounds the break, but a public stairway off Broad Beach Road leads down to the beach.
