Overview
Troncones is a 5 km (3 mi) stretch of beach just south of Manzanillo, dotted with rock outcrops that help sandbars build into peaks along the sand. The standout, though, is the moody right-hand reef at the south end, which is what pulls the crowd. Waves break over uneven reef and run both left and right.
When It Works
Troncones draws swell from south through west-southwest to northwest, with southwest (SW) the best match, and it holds up as a consistent option when the swell lines up. The reef is usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3 m / 10 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for northeast (NE) offshore wind to clean it up. It can work across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an intermediate-friendly reef. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on, especially at the right reef down the south end.
Access
There's free roadside parking close by, plus plenty of surf-facing places to stay in the area.
