Overview
Valdoviño sits on Praia de Frouxeira, a long arcing beach that serves up consistent, excellent-quality peaks along its length. Lefts and rights break over sand, and there is a hollow right off a rocky island, with a lagoon in the centre of the beach. Good beach and camping facilities round out the setting.
When It Works
The beach draws swell from west through north, with northwest (NW) swell the best match. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, and it is a swell magnet when everywhere else is flat, which is when it can also pull a crowd.
Wind and Tide
Look for south (S) offshore wind. Low and mid tide are the windows to aim for, with a rising tide generally the better call — the peaks are better at lower tides.
Local Tips
This is a wave for expert surfers. The eastern (Valdoviño) end fills up with beachgoers in summer, but there is plenty of space along the rest of the beach to spread out and find your own peak.
Access
There is a car park with free parking, and the beach is well set up with restrooms, showers, a lifeguard, and camping.
