Overview
Vazon Bay - Centres sits in the middle of Vazon Bay, one of several distinct breaks along this stretch and the hub of the Guernsey surf scene. Solid swells break on a rarely surfed outer reef peak in the centre of the bay, then reform into a fast, hollow right on the sandbar inside. The bottom is a mix of uneven reef and sand, and it throws both lefts and rights. Rocks are part of the setup here, so keep them in mind when you pick your line.
When It Works
Centres pulls in swell from southwest through north to northeast, with northwest swell the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, and it takes a solid swell to wake up the outer reef peak. Autumn is the standout season, when the cleanest swells line up with the bay.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast offshore wind to groom it. High tide is the call, and a rising tide is generally the better window as the sandbar starts to reform the wave.
Local Tips
Beginners and intermediates both find something here, and the bay handles just about anything you want to ride, from shortboards and fish through funboards, longboards, bodyboards, and SUPs. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on, with a fairly reserved feel in the water.
Access
There's a car park overlooking the break, so you can size it up before you paddle out.
