Overview
Vila is a sand-bottomed beach break at Saquarema, a stretch many Cariocas rate for the most consistent, quality waves in Brazil. West of the lagoon channel, Praia da Vila piles up sand off the point, throwing up a peak with a left and a right.
When It Works
The break draws swell from east through south to southwest (E-S-SW), with east (E) swell the best match. On a moderate swell with some east in it, the left off the point can turn hollow and hard-breaking; when it drops smaller, you get more forgiving, intermediate-friendly walls. It stays consistent and works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 3 m / 10 ft.
Wind and Tide
Look for north (N) offshore wind. It can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an intermediate wave at heart, most approachable on the smaller, wallier days. Expect a very busy lineup, especially on weekends when the crowd swells. Keep in mind that the lagoon outflow can bring pollution.
Access
There's a car park with free parking alongside roadside options. Facilities cover restrooms, a lifeguard, a surf school, and a surf shop.
