Virac Harbour is a left-hand reef break over live coral. On big, stormy days a fun left peels inside the harbour, leaving plenty of room to link turns and bust out bigger moves.
When It Works
The reef pulls in swell from north to east (N-E), with east (E) the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft and stays moderately consistent through the season.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest (NW) offshore wind to clean it up. The break favours high tide, and a rising tide is generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers. The lineup stays fairly quiet, with only a handful of local and visiting surfers around, so waves are easy to come by. The island is big and hides more spots, so it is worth hiring a boat in Virac to go exploring. An hour south at the tip of the island, Twin Rocks has fun lefts and rights plus easy accommodation in a chilled-out atmosphere.
