Vlieland is a sand-bottomed beach break that suits surfers who are still finding their feet. The seabed is all sand, so there is nothing heavy to worry about underneath you.
When It Works
Vlieland draws swell from west to north-northwest (W-NNW), and it lines up best on a north-northwest (NNW) swell. It works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.5 m / 5 ft, so you have a decent window of usable size to play with before it gets too small or too big.
Wind and Tide
Look for a southeast (SE) offshore wind to clean things up, though there is a broad workable window running from east-southeast through south to west (ESE-S-W). Tide-wise, the break comes alive around low and mid, with mid tide the pick and a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a friendly spot for beginners, so it is a good place to log some easy waves without much stacked against you.
