Overview
Waiinu Beach is a right-hand point that follows the curve of the coast, peeling over sand for a mellow, forgiving ride. Like its neighbour Fences, it rewards patience more than power. Keep an eye out for scattered rocks through the break.
When It Works
The point needs moderate to large swells to really turn on. It draws swell from south to west (S-W), with southwest the best direction. Waiinu is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3 m / 10 ft, and it's moderately consistent, so the worthwhile windows come around when the swell lines up.
Wind and Tide
These rights hold their shape in any northerly wind, including northwest, and north is the true offshore direction. It can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The gentle, forgiving wall makes this a good spot for beginners finding their feet. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's working.
Access
