Walcott is a sand-bottomed beachbreak that shifts character with the tide, peeling both left and right.
When It Works
The bank draws swell from northwest through north to southeast (NW-N-SE), with north (N) the best match, and is usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. At low tide it becomes a sucky, walling beachbreak that surfers will enjoy, while high tides bring a heavy shorebreak better suited to bodyboarders. North to east swells are the pick and can throw up some makeable barrels.
Wind and Tide
Look for southwest (SW) offshore wind. It can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Best suited to intermediate surfers, and the lineup can get crowded at times.
Access
There is free roadside parking nearby. Take care with strong rips and the many groynes that line the beach.
