Wewak Point is a reliable left-hand reefbreak that breaks over dead coral and is easy to check straight from town. It sits right by Wewak (pop. 63,000), where some swell consistency and size can be lost, but the easy access and nearby services make it an enjoyable spot to surf.
When It Works
The point draws swell from northwest through northeast, with northeast swell the best match. Because the islands cast a swell shadow across the area, more northerly, north-northeast energy tends to deliver the better waves. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft and is moderately consistent, so expect worthwhile windows rather than surf every day.
Wind and Tide
Look for southwest offshore wind to clean it up. The reef can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call. At low tide the left runs tubular, while at high tide the harbour channel produces a softer, more forgiving left.
Local Tips
This is an intermediate-friendly left, and the lineup usually stays fairly quiet when it's on.
