Winkipop is a long, fast, hollow right-hand point-style reefbreak sitting directly next door to Bell's. It breaks over an uneven, shallow reef and splits into sections along roughly 400 meters of rocky shelf, with the well-known Uppers and Lowers marking where you set up. When it's firing, it throws down fast, driving down-the-line walls that can handle serious swell.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from south through west (S-W), with southwest (SW) the best match. It's a consistent break that works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 4.6 m / 15 ft. Push it into the 6-8ft (2-2.5m) range on higher tides and the walls hit warp speed, opening into impossibly long, makeable barrel sections.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest (NW) offshore wind to groom those walls. Winkipop wants water on the reef, so it comes to life on mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an expert-only wave. The down-the-line speed and shallow reef demand real skill, and a constant sweep of rip runs along the shelf, so expect to paddle hard just to hold your spot. The lineup gets very busy when it's on, worked over by a talented local crew, so bring plenty of respect along with your ability.
