Woonona surf guide

Woonona is a popular surf spot located on the New South Wales coast. It’s well-known for being a go-to place for surfers looking for some fun waves. The beach has a solid vibe and tends to attract a crowd, especially those who are more serious about their surfing. The sandy bottom makes it easy to enjoy, but keep in mind that it's not the most beginner-friendly place around.

The waves here work best with NorthEast swells, but you can also catch some action with SouthEast swells. Surfable conditions typically handle swell sizes around 2ft (0.6 meters), and you’ll find both left and right beach breaks over sand. For those wanting to catch the best waves, the ideal wind comes from the west, and it works across low, mid, and high tides. It’s really a spot that suits intermediate surfers well, as the stronger wave action can be a bit much for less experienced riders.

In addition to the regular beach breaks, the southern headland plays host to Belambie Bombie, which offers big rolling rights when the southerly swells come in. This adds some variety for more experienced surfers looking to challenge themselves when conditions are right. Overall, Woonona is a solid choice if you’re in the area and don’t mind a bit of competition in the lineup.
