Overview
The Hook is a right-hand reef break in Sekongkang Bay, a swell magnet dotted with exposed slabs known as Yo Yo's, so named for the way swell refracts off the towering cliffs. It sits further down the reef from the neighbouring wedge, where the reef curves into a proper channel. That channel is what sets it apart: the wave is more likely to hold up and spin off makeable barrels rather than ending abruptly. It breaks over dead coral.
When It Works
The Hook draws swell from south through west (S-W), with a south (S) swell the best match. It's a consistent spot and works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. It comes into its own on small, glassy mornings and won't hold together through major swells, so the smaller, cleaner end of that range is where it shines.
Wind and Tide
Look for north (N) offshore wind; southeast trades don't work here. The reef can work through low, mid, and high tide, but mid tide on a rising push is the pick.
Local Tips
The Hook suits intermediate surfers, and with makeable barrels on offer you can expect a busy lineup when it's on.
