Overview
Aguas Blancas is a sand-bottomed beach break and Ibiza's best option when the swell swings very north. It's a cool, laid-back, semi-nudist beach popular with local islanders. The waves are often on the sloppy side, pulling in the odd surfer through winter and holiday bodyboarders in summer. On a rare big winter day, a heavyweight right breaks over a rock ledge, though it's only been ridden a couple of times.
When It Works
The beach break throws up both lefts and rights over sand. It draws swell from northwest through north to east (NW-N-E), with northeast (NE) the best match. It works from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft, and tends to be more consistent than nearby Cala Nova.
Wind and Tide
Look for a west (W) offshore wind. The break can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
With its mellow, forgiving waves, it's a friendly spot for beginners finding their feet.
Access
Getting in takes some effort. A couple of rough, steep roads drop down to the sea with limited parking, and there are two small parking areas down the hill, though the road is terrible. Free roadside parking is the norm, but it gets very crowded in summer and squeezing onto the thin road can be tough. The walk down to the beach is steep and slippery, especially after rain, so if parking is full, leave the car at the top and walk down.
