Overview
Anse Bougainville is a right-hand reef break on the east coast, where a fringing reef holds the surfline a good 200 m offshore. The reef runs mostly straight through Anse Forbans and further north, but here it pitches down an angle, and that kink is what lets the racy right-hand walls run. It breaks over dead coral.
When It Works
Swell reaches the reef from southwest through southeast, and the spot works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. You can surf it year-round and it's moderately consistent, but getting good swell and the right wind together is rare, so it pays to watch for the windows rather than count on them.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest offshore wind, which is most likely with the summer northwesterlies. The reef can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
