Azakou is a right-hand river mouth that wraps back toward the harbour wall over a boulder bottom. Take-offs come fast, and it throws the occasional tube when it's on.
When It Works
Azakou draws swell from northeast through southeast (NE-SE), with southeast (SE) the direction that lines it up best. Any east swell is worth a look. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft and is moderately consistent, so expect worthwhile windows rather than something to ride every day.
Wind and Tide
Look for southwest (SW) offshore wind to clean it up. It can work through most of the tide, with a rising tide the better call.
Local Tips
Azakou suits intermediate surfers. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's working, and keep it in mind as a solid option when the better-known spots get crowded.
Access
An easy check from the road, so you can size it up before paddling out.
