Baia Coqueiro is a rivermouth right that peels into the bay near Ribeira Afonso. A cluster of rocks at the southern end holds the rivermouth sandbars in place, setting up long, relaxing righthand shoulders. The wave breaks over a mix of boulders and sand.
When It Works
It draws swell from south through southwest, with southwest the best match. The right is usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.2 m / 4 ft. Consistency sits on the lower side, so expect somewhat inconsistent conditions with worthwhile windows when the swell lines up.
Wind and Tide
Look for west offshore wind. It can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The mellow, forgiving shoulder makes this a friendly option for beginners, and the lineup tends to stay quiet. One thing to keep in mind: the river can draw sharks, so there's more chance of seeing them here than at a typical beachbreak.
