Overview
Bloody Foreland is a right-hand point breaking over boulders on the northwest tip of Donegal. It's a genuine swell magnet that can handle serious size, though it's often a blown-out mess when the wind doesn't cooperate. There are other reefs around if this one isn't playing along.
When It Works
The point picks up swell from southwest through north, and west swell is the best match. It works from 1.2 m / 4 ft to 4.6 m / 15 ft, so there's plenty of room for it to show what it can do on a bigger day.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast offshore wind to clean it up, since that's what separates a good session here from the mess it can turn into. The point works through most of the tide, with a rising tide the better call.
Local Tips
This one is for experts. Strong currents run through the setup, and there are boils and exposed rocks to keep well clear of.
Access
Take the narrow lane on the right just after the viewpoint and follow it down to park on the grass at the bottom. Parking is free, either down there or along the roadside.
