Boucau is a powerful left that breaks over sand near the mouth of the Adour. An extensive, curved jetty at the river mouth helps shape the sandbanks, setting up point-style lefts with hollow sections and long, powerful walls.
When It Works
The banks draw swell from west to north (W-N), with west swell the best match. It works from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft, and it's moderately consistent, so you'll find worthwhile windows even though it won't fire every day.
Wind and Tide
Look for southeast offshore wind, with the added bonus of some shelter from south winds. It can work through most of the tide, across low, mid, and high, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is a demanding wave best suited to intermediate surfers who are comfortable in strong water. Expect a busy lineup when it's on. Currents can run strong, and while they're often what you need to get out at size, they add to the challenge. The atmosphere in the water can feel unfriendly.
Access
There are restrooms on hand, and parking is in a paid car park. The break sits in a rundown industrial area, and pollution flows out from the heavily industrialised Adour. A sunken ship adds to the potential danger in the water.
