Boulders is one of Samoa's standout left-hand pointbreaks, a rare setup for this corner of the Pacific. It's a well-shaped, long and very powerful wall that peels over boulders, a rocky mix of lava and the odd coral head close to the headland, and it can throw up some genuinely hollow sections. The wave stays rippable on smaller days while always offering a challenge, and it handles just about any swell the ocean sends, all set against a lush green backdrop.
When It Works
The break draws swell from southwest to southeast (SW-SE), with southeast (SE) the best match, so it's the bigger pulses wrapping in that line the wave up properly. It's usable from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 5.5 m / 18 ft, working from small, rippable days right up to serious overhead size. Winter, roughly May through August, is the prime window, and with moderate consistency you can expect worthwhile sessions rather than waves every day.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northeast (NE) offshore wind. The reef works across low, mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call. Lower tides are rideable too, though the inside gets shallow over the coral.
Local Tips
This is a shortboard wave that suits intermediate surfers comfortable in powerful, hollow surf. The lineup tends to stay fairly quiet and can feel a little reserved. Watch the coral heads on lower tides and the cliff at higher tides, keep an eye out for sharks in the area, and never turn your back on the ocean.
Access
Paddle out from the beach. There's a car park with paid parking.
