Bulli is a sand-bottomed beachbreak that peels both left and right, with a couple of reef options tucked into the corners for surfers who want something more demanding. The main beach picks up the most swell, while the south end hides a good right reef in the corner and the northern headland offers a kamikaze left alongside an extremely fickle rocky right known as Peggies, which is strictly expert territory.
When It Works
The bank draws swell from northeast through east-southeast to south (NE-ESE-S), and a northeast swell is the best match. It breaks with reliable consistency and is usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 3 m / 10 ft. The beachbreak firms up and gets more solid when peaky northeast to southeast swells push in.
Wind and Tide
Look for a west offshore wind to clean things up. Bulli can work across low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
The main beachbreak suits intermediate surfers, and you can expect a moderately busy lineup when it turns on. The reef in the southern corner and the peaks off the northern headland are a step up, with Peggies best left to experts.
Access
Everything sits at the Bulli Beach Reserve by the sea pool, including restrooms, showers, and lifeguard cover. Parking is easy, with a car park offering both free and paid spaces plus roadside options.
