Overview
Cueva is a high-quality, west-facing beachbreak shaped by a river mouth, throwing rights at the eastern end and lefts at the other. It breaks over sand in unspoilt, unpolluted surroundings.
When It Works
The break draws swell from west through north, with northwest (NW) swell the best match, and it works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. Because it sits sheltered from the northeast sea breezes in summer, it stays very consistent through the warmer months.
Wind and Tide
Look for a southeast (SE) offshore wind to clean it up. It's at its best from low to mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one is a wave for expert surfers. The lineup stays quiet even in summer, so you can usually count on an uncrowded session when it's on.
Access
A lifeguard keeps watch, and parking is easy, with free roadside spots close by.
